Electron Microscopy Laboratory (ElMicLab/AUTh)

Electron Microscopy and Structural Characterization of Materials Laboratory, (ElMicLab), Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), GR-541 24 Thessaloniki, Greece.

“ElMicLab” was established in 1963 and it is still the only legally registered Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) lab at National level (F.Ε.Κ 221A/29.10.1997). With more than half a century of robust research activities, the long-standing expertise of its specialized scientific personnel has established ElMicLab as the principal TEM center in Greece and an internationally acknowledged one. ElMicLab provides the necessary new knowledge on materials microstructure down to the nano- and atomic scales, employing an integrated experimental-modelling approach that correlates structure with growth/deposition/processing and physical properties. Such approach leads to innovation and creativity based on the study of new materials up to the exploration of advanced nanotechnology materials for e.g. energy, micro/nano/hybrid electronics and photonics, aeronautics, nanomedicine etc. ElMicLab members collaborate with academic/research institutions and offer R&D services to the industrial sector contributing to the development of innovative added-value materials and products as well as standardization of products or production processes.

ElMicLab/AUTh serves as an Innovation-el partner and as an access-site offers structural characterization of materials down to the atomic scale using advanced analytical transmission electron microscopy techniques.
