INN is one of the leading multidisciplinary research institutes in Greece. The mission of INN is to advance the scientific and technological knowledge by conducting basic and applied research in a wide range of Physical, Chemical and Engineering Sciences with emphasis in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The research activities span from the study of processes to the development of materials, devices and systems driven by scientific excellence and innovation. More specifically they include synthesis and growth of molecules and materials, device design, fabrication and evaluation, structural, physicochemical and analytical characterization as well as study of physicochemical processes and theory and simulation on multiscale modeling, non-linear systems and molecular thermodynamics. Special attention is given in the exploitation of the results for the benefit of the Greek as well as the European Union Economy and Society in key socio-economic sectors including Nano- and Microelectronics, Photonics, Information Technology, Energy, Environment, Health, Food, Cultural Heritage, Built Environment and Space.

INN serves as the Innovation-el coordinator and as an access-site offers an ISO certified 300 m² clean room facility which provides a wide range of nano- and micro-fabrication techniques. INN is also an access-site for advanced structural characterization offering electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, liquid state NMR and tandem mass spectrometry.
