PS -PHMS/ Polymer and Polymer based Hybrid Material Synthesis

Expertise and infrastructure in polymer, colloid and hybrid material synthesis are provided on the following main topics:

• Polymer synthesis by advanced techniques of controlled / “living” and free-radical polymerization.

• Synthesis of tailor-made polymers grafted onto inorganic flat surfaces and nanoparticles of different shapes and chemical composition. Inorganic nanoparticle synthesis by polymer templating.

• Synthesis of responsive (pH, temperature, light etc.) polymers in solution / on surfaces and polymer hydrogels/microgel particles.

• Biodegradable and biocompatible synthetic and hybrid (natural-synthetic) (co)polymers.

• Polymer and monomer synthesis for lithography and 3D writing/printing applications.

• Synthesis of latex particles.

We (i) deliver materials as service or (ii) offer access to our labs and provide adequate training and supervision, by senior researchers, to visiting scientists. We provide combined access to available materials characterization facilities, if required.

Tool

Fully equipped synthesis laboratory including fume hoods equipped with high vacuum Schlenk techniques, solvent drying apparatus, rotary evaporator, centrifuge, SEC, etc.

Techniques - Applications

Polymer synthesis using “living”/controlled polymerization techniques (group transfer polymerization, ATRP, RAFT), ring opening polymerization, targeting different macromolecular architectures (block, star, graft, copolymers) and characteristics (molecular weights and compositions). Polymers by free-radical polymerization are also available.
Synthesis of tailor-made functional polymers grafted onto inorganic flat surfaces and nanoparticles of different shapes and chemical composition (ceramics, metals, etc.). Inorganic nanoparticle synthesis using polymer templating methodologies.
Synthesis of responsive (pH, temperature, light, etc.) polymers in solution and on surfaces and polymer hydrogels/microgel particles.
Biodegradable and biocompatible synthetic and hybrid (natural-synthetic) (co)polymers of different architectures (block, star, graft).
Synthesis of polymers, monomers and hybrid material precursors for UV lithography, two photon polymerization and 3D printing applications.
Synthesis of latex particles with tailored size and surface functionalities.
